Writings
In keeping with the forum's theme of providing people with intellectual and intuitive/experiential tools for reassessing their perceptions of water, West has authored two print books, an e-Book, and a variety of articles that address water. Universal Water is the most technical of the books and examines water from the perspectives of modern scientific theories and ancient beliefs, whereas Altered Perceptions provides a succinct history of our water "consciousness" and suggests some tools for shifting it. The e-Book Exploring Water's Essence was written to accompany a radio program sharing the same title and an upcoming e-book, Hydromimicry, portrays water as a model for approaching global challenges. His articles focus on a wide range of water topics and were prepared for journals or lectures. While brief descriptions are provided on this web page, more information on the books and articles is available at marrinbooks.com.
Universal Water
Universal Water: The Ancient Wisdom and Scientific Theory of Water (Inner Ocean Publishing 2002) was West's first work to target both a technical and nontechnical readership. Universal Water examines water from the perspectives of science, naturalism, and ancient wisdom. In particular, the contention that water serves as a molecular-scale mediator for planetary and universal phenomena is examined in light of philosophies, theories, and insights that have been shared throughout human history. Rather than critiquing these divergent perspectives, the book focuses on presenting them in a manner that confronts our prevailing postmodern beliefs about water. In the process of sampling these interesting (albeit unfamiliar and often controversial) perspectives, the book addresses the mystic as well as the scientific, the conventional as well as the unconventional, and the spiritual as well as the physical. While Universal Water was written for a diverse audience, some familiarity with the concepts and terms used to describe science and Nature is helpful. It is available through Amazon and the author ( click here for ordering).

Altered Perceptions
Altered Perceptions: Addressing the Real Water Crises (self-published 2006, Unlimited Publishing 2007) is based on material from West's recent lectures and articles and on excerpts from Universal Water. The book focuses on prevalent views of water in the industrialized world and their influence on crises surrounding freshwater resources and the oceans. How our collective perceptions have served to create and sustain the current crises is examined in light of institutions, policies, and attempted solutions. Altered Perceptions traces the historical view of water in identifying the major philosophical, spiritual, and cultural shifts that have altered humanity's relationship to it. Rather than suggesting solutions to these crises, the book explores ways in which our predominantly intellectual view of water may be supplemented by intuitional and/or experiential insights; perhaps facilitating a more balanced relationship with water. Altered Perceptions was written for a nontechnical audience and requires no background in water science or history. It is available through Amazon, the publisher, and the order desk at major bookstores ( click here for ordering).

Exploring Water's Essence
Exploring Water's Essence: An Internet Radio Program (Water Sciences & Insights 2006) is a companion e-Book in to the audio series, which may be accessed on this website. The book provides topic descriptions and guest profiles for each of the thirteen episodes, as well as a brief perspective pertinent to each of the topics. Perspectives appear in the form of quotations or unusual viewpoints that are designed to prompt readers and listeners to explore a personal, rather than a representational, relationship to water. Exploring Water's Essence is available exclusively in an electronic format and may be downloaded from Amazon or by clicking here.
Hydromimicry
Hydromimicry: Strategies for a Water Planet (Water Sciences & Insights) is an e-Book in progress and is due to be released in March 2009. Hydromimicry explores the micro- and macro-scale roles of water with a focus on supporting or emulating them in our approach to resource and environmental challenges. These strategies involve recognizing and working with Earth's responses to human pressures and with water's orchestration of global transformations, rather than coercing water and the planet to conform to our remedies. The traditional "management" of water has overemphasized its role as a commodity and underemphasized its role in climate change, CO2 balance, energy alternatives, information dynamics, global markets, and human health. Water's subtlety in initiating or mediating many of the physical, chemical, and biological processes on Earth can serve as a model for decisions and technologies we employ to address today's challenges.....even those challenges that are rarely associated with water. The book will be available in an electronic format for downloading from online booksellers or this website.
Journal and Lecture-Related Articles
West's articles include those written for scientific and nature-oriented journals, as well as those composed for specific presentations, lectures, workshops, or short courses. Journal articles address water quality and ecology issues, water treatment and remediation techniques, and some of water's unusual physical and chemical properties. Lecture-related articles address the implications of modern and ancient views of water, as well as water's importance in global issues (e.g., carbon trading, climate change, energy sources, resource allocation) and in esoteric topics such as life force, sacred geometry, and cosmology. The articles have been converted to a PDF format and may be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.
